Summary: Sherlock, who has managed to get himself and John ejected from Harrod’s, makes a not so good first impression when, on the way home, the boys meet Baker Street newcomer, Mary Morstan. Mary’s arrival is not the only surprise in store for Sherlock, however, as previously declared dead Irene Adler returns with a message from Moriarty. Irene, who is afraid for her life after teaming up with the consulting criminal, pleads with Sherlock for help, which he agrees to provide in the form of assistance from an ‘old friend’.
As Mary and John grow closer, the question of just who this ‘old friend’ may be rattles John’s brain. He has never heard Sherlock mention anyone from his past. A chance encounter with Victor Trevor opens up more questions for John. Just who was this man to Sherlock? Had they come back into each other’s lives just to part again? And, how exactly was a man who Sherlock hadn’t been in contact with for years going to provide aid to Irene Adler?
